Miami Book Fair International
(Used by permission)
I just got back from the Miami Book Fair International. I was thrilled to be part of a panel called "Comics and Autobiography" moderated by John Hogan, editor of "Graphic Novel Reporter". My fellow panelists were Jennifer Hayden, author of "Underwire" and Jason Shiga, author of "Empire State: A Love Story (or Not)".
After the panel discussion, a signing area was set up for autographing our books.
I just want to thank the Miami Book Fair International for hosting me. Also I want to thank John Hogan, Jennifer Hayden and Jason Shiga for a great panel.

APE, Alternative Press Expo
This past weekend I was in San Francisco at APE, the Alternative Press Expo. I was signing my latest book, "Freeway," at the Fantagraphics Books tables. I want to thank everyone who came out to buy my book or just to say hi. Also I met alot of young animators and it was wonderful to get their insight into the business that is a big part of my life and what Freeway is about. Also I want to thank Fantagraphics Books and Eric Reynolds for hosting me.

Freeway Art 15
Here are some thumbnail storyboards that I create to figure out the layout of each page for Freeway.
Each thumbnail is quite small and varies in size with the average size being 2.5 inches by 3 inches. They are also quite crude and quite cryptic but they help me to build the page and to figure out how many pages I need for each chapter.
Here is a detail of a thumbnail sketch of page 254 and the finished page.
One can see how different the finished page is to the thumbnail. In the thumbnail, I originally drew a few panels showing Alex freaking out as his car's dash warning lights come on. When I finally designed the original page I felt those panels slowed the action down so I got rid of them.
